Crochet Lamp Cover

Well the rain seems here to stay so for now I've given up on outdoor painting. There's not much free time at the minute and I'm finding it frustrating not having large enough blocks of it to get on with the indoor projects I've currently got going. I decided to start yet another project, even though I promised myself I wouldn't until something was finished, but I chose a small, quick to complete one that satisfies my creative urges.

I've had a small mathmos colour change lamp for ages but it's got a frosted glass shade that's been scuffed during house moves and so it was relegated to a box until I could decide what to do with it. Having seen tons of cool crochet covered objects on pinterest I thought this would be an ideal candidate. How hard could it be?

Turns out it wasn't hard at all. I raided my wool stash and found some left over neutrals and just began with a circle. Then just added more rows in whatever pattern I felt like. If I didn't like the way a row was looking I just pulled it back and did something different. It's actually two colours as I ran out of the grey wool half way so the underneath is more a cream colour and in a thicker yarn but I'm so happy with the way it came out. When it's not lit it sits there like a cute woolly mushroom and in the evening it has pretty colours and pattern. It only took a day and that was with the usual baby interruptions. I think it would only be a couple of hours work really. Now I'm looking around wondering what else I can cover in crochet...

Lists lists lists..

There's been a definite chill in the air for more than a few mornings recently and the nights are steadily creeping in. I feel the autumn coming. I've been having a mad panic about getting some of the larger projects done before the weather changes as I've no room to do them inside. Oh for a garage workshop.

I really must paint the patio furniture before winter. I'd barely got started on it last summer when I got pregnant and didn't want to be messing with stinky paint. I really don't think they'll last another winter without the rot setting in. They've needed doing since they were passed onto us a few years ago. They are such a solid, useful set I don't want them to fall apart. But with two chairs, a bench and a large table to do it's going to take a few days to do the two or three coats they'll need.

I'm still working on the dining table for my mum. The painting is all done but it needs distressing and varnishing. Also the chairs need something doing with them but I haven't quite decided what. Plus I loved the green colour of the table so much I decided to use the left over paint to do my Ikea stool which I've also been meaning to do something with for over a year. That still needs another coat and some varnish but at least it's a smaller size. It might actually get done before Christmas.

All the other things will just have to get bumped to next year. I doubt there will be enough good weather left this year to get them done. As it is it's done nothing but rain today. It was such a beautiful day yesterday too.
Have a happy weekend creating and make the most of the last days of summer!

The End of August.

So I stopped photographing for the august break. I ran into a massively busy week with visitors and illness, missed a few days and then decided to start some other projects so chose not to go back to it. I did really enjoy it though. I think I may make more effort to take photographs to record what I'm up to. It's lovely to look back on those I already have taken as they remind me what was happening that day. These are the last four I took.
