I have something of a fascination with light and dark.I've been going through some of my old photo's today and I've found more than I realised I had, it seems I can't help but try to capture the light. If there's an interesting sunset I just have to take a picture. I've often thought of doing a series of paintings just of clouds, maybe I will start it soon. It's about time I got my paintbrushes out...
Yesterday was baking day! I have a glut of lemons at the moment so decided to try the Lemon Cake from my Hummingbird Bakery book and have to say it tastes great so it's going on my regular bake list. I also couldn't resist making another coffee and walnut cake so I think I'll be taking some round the neighbours!
An update on the first crochet blanket I'm making. It's going to be for my spare room bed so I've a lot more squares to go! I've deliberately gone for summery colours as I want it to have a summer garden feel. As it's my first attempt at making something and I want it to be of practical use I've just used a mix of fairly cheap yarns that will be soft, comfy and washable.
This weeks cake is Coffee and Walnut from Nigella Lawson's Kitchen book. Haha, I've loved baking since I was a kid and still do most weeks when I have free time. It brings me comfort and happiness and I love to see other people enjoying the sweet treats. I recommend this one!
I began a new knitting project last week. A great big afghan blanket for my sofa. It's the lizard ridge pattern I've liked for ages and I've managed to do one square so far. It's using James C. Brett Marble Chunky in browns and greys. There's a way to go yet but I like the colours so it should be perfect when it's finished.
Here's a better scan of the picture I did as an anniversary present as promised. I finally got around to scanning it in. It was done on artists board in ink, acrylic and watercolour. The central heart is actually a metallic copper paint but it won't pick that up on a scan.
In my garden I have a very large and impressive lavender bush which I made sure I cut and dried lots of this summer. So for Christmas I made a few lavender bags for people using some bright Amy Butler fabric and the dried lavender. I think I might make a few more with this years lavender for myself!
These are a couple of things I did before Christmas as a gift for relatives. Some plain photo frames that I've customised to make them unique. I might do a few more for myself as they looked great when I put a black and white family photo in them. Very simple to do with just a paintbrush, ink and a bit of time!
I realise updates have been a bit thin on the ground but I'm still here and crafting. Things have been a bit hectic at Christmas but hopefully I should have a bit more free time now to get on with a few things I have planned. I'm currently trying to master crochet yet again... I WILL make something that looks half decent. It's getting there I think after much trial and error, then I plan on making a throw of some description.
