Peacock Hearts

I've been somewhat lax about posting recently. Partly because I am just one of life's procrastinators and partly because all the stuff I've been doing is for Christmas presents so I don't want to spoil the surprise. I did however do a little anniversary present for my partner which I intend to post but the photo's I've taken aren't the best so I think I'll take it out it's frame and scan it in. For now here's the somewhat badly lit photo of it. It's done in ink, watercolour, and acrylic on board.

Perfect Pumpkins

Over the weekend I went to a yummy food festival at a local farm shop. As well as the mass of tasty food they had all their pumpkins and gourds on display. I think subconsciously this made me think ceramics as I love the shapes they form and it makes me want to make some! Then of course this made me think of the ceramic artist Kate Malone who does amazing sculptural pieces with the most beautiful glazes. Having a mooch around the web to see what she's up to these days I found a really interesting video diary of her working on the new pieces for her up-coming show, so I thought I'd share!

Long time knitting..

Well I finally finished off the scarf I've been working on for ages and I'm very pleased with it. The yarn is lovely and it feels great on, really cosy and soft. It's made from Araucania Pehuen yarn which I'll definitely use again as it was lovely to work with for a noob like me. It's destined for a Christmas present though so it's safely tidied away for the moment. I've begun working on some very basic legwarmers and some fingerless gloves as my next winter projects, hopefully they'll go somewhat quicker now I've had more practice. Pics to follow when I've done enough to be worth looking at!

Still plodding along!

I haven't posted for a while as I've not finished anything I can share recently. I've got a few projects on the go that are to be Christmas presents so obviously don't want to spoil the surprise, and I'm making some cards this year too. I got a lovely Amy Butler fabric pack yesterday so I have plans to make a few thing with that. Time to get the sewing machine out!

Well the Quilt Show was good as always. Here's one of my fave's above although I have no idea who's it is as I was too mean to pay £6 for a catalogue. Lots to see and buy if only I was a rich woman! I was restrained enough to only buy a jelly roll to make a quilt. I saw the lovely Amy Butler and Kaffee Fassett and found another half a dozen books I want so they've gone on my wish list.

Today the weather is beautiful but I decided last night to start planning for Christmas so I am getting started on making some Christmas cards.

Festival of Quilts and consuming less!

Tickets for the Festival of Quilts all booked! I love going as there's always lots of exciting inspiration like this lovely quilt from a previous year, plus I get to spend some time with my mum. which doesn't happen enough. I also get to spend time mooching around the vast amount of lovely things to buy but I'm determined not to go mad this year.

I've just finished reading "Not buying it" which was an interesting read although I question some of the writers ideas of "essentials". Three cars for example is not my idea of a necessary item but I guess that's the American culture for you. Anyway it has made me realise that when I'm complaining about not having enough space in our house I'm being stupid. Our house is more than big enough for two people (in fact I think we're lucky to have so much room) just not big enough for all our "stuff". I must make an effort to hoard less and use up more instead of stockpiling things I don't really need.

Weekend Treats

It was my birthday at the weekend and I got a haul of goodies including these lovely handmade treats from my darling mother Francesca.

I also dragged my OH to the fabric shop and bought some yummy fabric. I'm planning on making some cushions out of the larger print and using the other for the window in my kitchen. They were complete bargains so I'm v. happy. I just need a bit of ribbon, curtain pole and cushion inserts now.

Home again, home again, jiggidy jig!

I'm back again! I'm so fickle. I'm loving the updates blogger has had to it's customization so I've come back from WordPress as whilst I like that too it's just not as versatile. Just in the process of having a mess around at the minute.

Spring-time!

Hurray Spring is here. I'm still lacking in inspiration for drawing though I've been doing some rough sketching. My knitting project is coming along... slowly. It's not far off being done but I think it's success may lay more in the loveliness of the yarn than my knitting skill. However onwards and upwards!

Let it snow!

It's been very unusually snowy here for the last week so I've been stuck in the house alot. It's amazing how a bit of snow can cause such chaos, but it's very beautiful. However it has encouraged me to do some knitting and sewing!
