Tiger Growl

This one's my latest ACEO. It's coloured pencil on heavyweight cartridge paper and it's up for sale here.

I'm also working on a larger pencil piece so if that turns out ok I'll post pictures. Might take me a while to do though I'm not exactly a speedy artist. Hopefully won't be too long though!

Little Kitten

Here's my latest little drawing. Not my usual thing but I felt like a bit of a change. This little kitty is contemplating a trip further than the back door into the big world beyond.

It's up on eBay here.

I've just thought - I haven't put this drawing on here yet so here it is. A mermaid out for a swim!

I've just started up a gallery over on deviantART where I'm going to put up some of my old and new stuff and generally point out other much more talented artists on there than me. I've often been over there to have a look there's some amazing work, anyone that likes art should definitely check it out.

I've a couple of new ACEO's this week. This is the first which I'm really happy with. Some of my pictures just come out of nowhere and this was one. It just started as a doodle whilst I watched TV. Here's the link to it on eBay.

The Yurei

[Edit] Just realised this weeks Illustration Friday is "Ghost" which is very appropriate so I'm using this drawing.

This is my latest ACEO, it's based on the Japanese supernatural world where someone who died violently or with unfinished business will remain behind as a ghost called a Yurei to seek out vengeance so that it may rest in peace. Very scary things. They would be my Halloween nightmare. It's up for sale on eBay and can be found by clicking here.

I've also put my last ACEO (the one below) up for sale which you can get to by clicking here.

Something wicked this way comes...

Something wicked this way comes

A new ACEO today, pencil on smooth cartridge paper. I'm thinking I'll do a series of these as I like the idea and had fun with this. You can't beat good old fashioned drawing with a bit of paper and a pencil, digital isn't the same.

Illustration Friday ~ Capture

I've been a bit lazy recently so I did a quick sketch giving myself no more than an hour to get back into it a bit. It's based on the various bugs I've seen captured inside pieces of amber.

Illustration Friday ~ Rain

Something about blogger really doesn't like this post. I hope it works this time as it's about my fifth attempt to fix it. Sorry to all those who tried to look and there was nothing here. This is a quick sketch I did in Painter as I'm trying to learn to work digitally, so it was a bit of practice really.

May Swap

The Feng-Hwang

This card was for the May swap which was a theme of myths and legends. As a child I had a tiny book called Mythical Beasts which I still have today that always fascinated me. One of the creatures in it was this one.

“In ancient China the feng-hwang, a bird of paradise, was a bird of good omen. It had the head of a pheasant and the body and resplendent plumage of a peacock. As it flew it was accompanied by flocks of lesser birds and the sound it made was said to cause the crops to flourish and the trees to grow.

To receive a visit from the feng-hwang was to be looked on favourably by the gods, and if the bird visited the Emperor’s garden it meant that the ruler’s reign was just. No celebration was felt to be complete unless the feng-hwang graced the festivities with its presence. Its appearance at a wedding was considered especially auspicious, for the bird was believed to symbolize perfect love.

Sadly, these dazzling and benevolent creatures were not long-lived. But it is said that when a feng-hwang died, a hundred birds of the air would peck a hole in the earth so that it could be properly buried."

ACEO UK June Theme Week

The 60s

I've done this card for the ACEO UK theme week. I was just playing around with it a bit really. I've always loved Bob Masse's illustrations so it was inspired by him a little. It's done on a thick board called CS2 which is great for painting on, in just gouache paint and ink. I thought I'd use gouache thickly for this one as it gives a really vivid matt finish. The link to it on Ebay is below.

Illustration Friday ~ Under the Sea

This is a really old drawing I did a few years ago. Unfortunately it's not the best scan so has lost some of the detail. Just done in pencil on a normal A3 Daler pad.

Easter Surprise

I haven't posted anything for a while as I've been working on bigger projects but this is a card I've just done for the swap in my ACEO UK group.

Illustration Friday ~ Spring

For me spring is all about nature waking from it's slumber. One of my favourite sights is all the new blossom on the trees. There are some beautiful trees in my local churchyard which I walk past every day, that are in full blossom. It's such a fantastic sight. Unfortunately it also signals the beginning of the new seasons birds in the garden which is more of a delight to my cats.

Headless Chicken

I'm having a hard time focusing on one thing and nothing seems to get done! I wanted to do a card for tomorrows ACEO UK theme week which is Sanctuary. I've come up with an idea I really like, only I like it so much I want to make it into a bigger piece. Consequently no card for tomorrow. Think I might get my paints out for that one too as I feel like splashing some colour around.

I've also found a great little book I want to try use for an Altered Book project I'm thinking of (see pic). Got to love having an Oxfam book shop, £1.99! Bargain!

And then I've also got a collage in mind I want to give as a gift, and I want to do something for Illustration Friday as I've had a good idea for that too. I'm all ideas and don't know where to start first! Argh!

Air Elemental

My latest piece which I suspect was inspired by all the bad weather we've been having. ACEO size in pencil just on plain heavyweight paper.

Urgh horrible weather outside today it's pouring with rain. Definitely a day for staying in and doing some art work. I thought I'd add some of my past work from before I started my blog. Mainly because with my terrible memory it's a good idea to make a note of things before I've forgotten the details. This was a pencil ACEO I did towards the end of last year. It was for a theme week of one of the groups I was in. The theme being Shadows. In fact thinking about it this was the first ACEO I did. It's what got me started. Well that and a lot of persuading from my darling mother. I guess it's my turn to get someone else hooked on them now!

Illustration Friday ~ Insect

Thought it would be fun to do some mini-art for illustration friday. I love the idea of this website. These two are tiny stamp sized pieces done purely in pencil. I had fun with these and rather like the finished result. I might make them into an ACEO at some point.

Mother and Child

Well just got in from my day job and posted my listing for the theme week contest held by the ACEO group I'm a member of on Ebay. The contest is held on the first Sunday of every month and I really wanted to try to get something done for this one. To be honest I don't know where the idea for this came to me from. Just one of those little doodles on the pad I keep by my computer which turned into a finished piece.

Unfinished work

This piece has been half finished for ages. I just can't decide on the background. I might try playing around with some ideas in painter before committing to actually drawing it. It's proving to be annoying that I can't finish it off how I want.

Angel Series

Here's my latest three pieces which are about to end on ebay. No bids unfortunately but that's ok they're not very traditional pieces they were more of a personal project. They were based on the idea of guardian angels or spirits, each doing a different role. There's healing, guidance and protection.

So this is my new blog. Starting it was really someone else's suggestion but we'll see how it goes.
